McGavock Elementary School celebrated Earth Day with students, parents, faculty, and

community members on Friday, April 22, 2011. All volunteers met at the school’s new “Reading Garden” to plant flowers, spread mulch, and tidy up the school grounds. Volunteers from the organization Hands on Nashville spent many hours landscaping this special area. In addition, several volunteers from LEE COMPANY helped secure landscaping timbers and planted a new sensory garden for students who receive Life Skills services. McGavock Elementary families and faculty members enjoyed a day on campus where they had the opportunity to make a real difference in their school. The McGavock Reading Garden was made possible by the LOWES Foundation Grant and all the volunteers who donated their time and resources.
