PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

Twilight School (TLS) is an academic intervention for students needing tutoring in core-subject courses. Students can report for TLS to receive help with homework or to be tutored via our A+ computerized learning system. TLS is also open to students needing to recover previously failed credits. There is no attendance requirement for students reporting to TLS for tutoring or credit recovery.

TLS is also a punishment option to be used at the discretion of the principal. Unlike out of school suspension, students are counted present for the school day. The student does not attend the regular school day, but instead the student reports to school at 2:30 and stays until 6:00.

All students reporting for TLS meet in the Library by 2:30. Transportation is not provided, so students must have their own transportation to and from TLS.

STUDENT ASSIGNMENT:

Students wishing to attend TLS for tutoring or credit recovery must speak with Mr. Hammond before attending for information.

TLS as punishment is a minimum five day placement. TLS does not meet on Friday, and students are not allowed to report on Friday for the week they are assigned. Their absence on Friday is an excused absence.

ATTENDANCE:

There is no attendance requirement for tutoring or credit recovery, although students must arrive to the library by 2:30.

The hours of TLS are 2:30 to 6:00, Monday through Thursday for students assigned for discipline. If a student does not come to Twilight School on the days he or she is assigned, the student is marked Out-of-School Suspended.

CURRICULUM:

Credit recovery instruction will always be performed using A+. Tutoring may be in the form of A+ or help with homework. TLS teachers have multiple students each evening, so one-on-one tutoring for an extended period of time is never available.

For students reporting for discipline, one core academic subject is covered each day. The TLS student will work on the standards covered during the week in his or her regular teacher’s class. In most cases, instruction will be delivered via the A+ (computerized instruction) system.

BEHAVIOR:

Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated in Twilight School. It may result in Out-of-School Suspension. Regular school dress code applies during Twilight School.
