Visual Art I

This elective course offers students studio experiences in drawing, painting, and two- and three-dimensional design with an emphasis on art elements. Students will gain an understanding and ap-plying media, techniques and processes; us-ing knowledge of structures and functions; choosing and evaluating a range of subject matter, symbols and ideas; understanding the visual arts in relation to history and cultures.
Exploring Printmaking, Fabric and Dyes

This is an in-depth studio course in which the student explores printmaking processes such as: linoleum, plexiglass, intaglio, serigraph and wood cut. The student also explores weaving with a variety of looms and/or the batik process of staining fibers to create aes-thetic craft objects of function or decoration.
Ceramic Construction and Sculpture

This is an in-depth studio course in which the student explores the plastic medium of fire clay. Throwing functional objects on the wheel, coil and slab building, and expressive ceramic sculpture are options available to students.
Expressive Palette: Painting

This course is an in-depth studio course in which the student explores qualities of paint-ing including acrylic and watercolor, and studies color theory. The student can choose to focus on the human figure, land or seascapes, still life or fantasy.
Drawing

This course allows the student to explore qualities of graphite, pastels, chalks, ink and colored pencils. The student can choose to focus on the human figure, landscapes, still life or fantasy.
Art Criticism/Appreciation

This is an in-depth course that focuses on a few of the world's greatest works of art and architecture. Describing, analyzing and syn-thesizing the content and meaning to discover why these works have been identified as great is the goal. The courses also involves recognizing the accom-plishments of human effect in the visual arts and appreciating the accom-plishments of artists in major world cultures.
AP Art Studio

This course will follow the guidelines of the College Board AP Studio Art course, which offers opportunities for developing one of three specific portfolios: drawing, two-D design, or 3-D design. This course is only for students who are capable of produc-ing a portfolio of works in various media in addition to a series of works demonstrating an in-depth personal commitment to a par-ticular artistic concern.
