Performing Arts
 
Beginning Band

This course is designed for those students who wish to learn to play a wind or per-cussion instrument and have had no previous instru-mental instruction or have not had enough instrumen-tal experience to qualify for Marching Band I or Concert Band I. After school and/or evening performances may be required.
Chamber Music

This course is for the inter-mediate to advanced instru-mentalist who wishes to study chamber music in depth. There will be per-formance requirements for this course after school or in the evening.
Concert Band I-IV

Concert band is designed for the wind or percussion instrument-alists to improve technique and overall musicianship. In ad-dition to improving playing and performance skills, the student will be required to study historical, multicultural and interdisciplinary per-spectives as it relates to music as well as form and style.
Orchestra I-IV

This course is designed for students who can demon-strate competence on their chosen string instrument. Literature of classical and contemporary composers is studied and performed. Stu-dents will cover some music theory and music history while becoming more profi-cient technically and musi-cally. After school and/or evening rehearsals and per-formances may be required.
Marching Band I-IV

This course is designed to prepare quality music and place it in a setting of move-ment to music. Emphasis will be placed on technique and musicality. After school and/or evening rehearsals and performances will be required.
Eurythmics

This course is designed for those students who were color guard members in marching band and wish to continue their training during the second semester. It blends music with dance and equipment handling (flags, color guard rifles, color guard sabers, and other manipulatives).
Wind Ensemble I-IV

This course is for a highly select group of advanced wind and percussion musi-cians that study and perform the best of music written or arranged for wind ensem-bles and concert bands.
Stage Band I-IV

This course is made up of various string instrument musicians working on cham-ber music and other repertoire appropriate to each student’s degree of advancement. This course may require after school and/or evening perform-ances.
Instrumental Techniques I-IV

This course is to provide small groups of students with development in tech-nique on a particular instru-ment. All band and orches-tra instruments, including piano and guitar are taught.
Jazz Improvization I

This course is designed for the student who wants to pursue the study and per-formance of jazz on his/her chosen instrument. The stu-dent will study and execute the technique of improvisa-tion.
Music Theory I & II

This is a beginning course that includes the study of the elements of music: nota-tion, harmony, key relation-ships and chord patterns. Classes are taught through the use of the electronic piano lab.
Music History and Literature

This course is an introduc-tion to all types of music - rock, soul and pop to the musical masterpieces. It also explores the back-ground of music develop-ment.
Music Understanding
 
This course is designed for students with no previous experience in music. Em-phasis is placed on current developments in music with the students increasing en-joyment of music through listening, participation, read-ing, visitations and discus-sions.
Guitar I-IV

This course is designed for the student wishing to learn the guitar. Students may need their own guitars for practice. Repertory and technical studies will be adapted to the capabilities of the student.
Piano I

This course is designed for the beginning student wish-ing to learn the basic funda-mentals of piano playing. This is a laboratory course through the use of an elec-tronic piano lab. Elements of music theory and music his-tory are part of this course.
Advanced Piano II-IV

These courses are for stu-dents wishing to continue in-depth study for piano, for practice. Repertory and technical studies will be adapted to the capabilities of the student.
AP Music Theory

AP Music Theory is an in-tense study of music through the understanding of melody, harmony and the compositional proc-ess. Sight-singing, ear-training, harmonic analysis and composition are all covered in this course. It is designed for those students who have a good background in performance and can flu-ently read music. All stu-dents are expected to take the AP Music Theory examination developed by the College Board at the end of the course.
Drama Acting

This course involves stu-dents in various aspects of acting improvisation, panto-mime, voice and diction, character development and allows for opportunities to participate in scenes, plays and readers theater.
Musical Theater

This course is designed to study the elements that comprise the components of a musical production. Types of musicals, structure of musical terms, move-ments and performances will be studied.
Theater Management

This course designed for students to study various managers in theater. It will explore the positions of stage impact on the over-all theatrical production.
Advanced Acting

This course is designed to study acting styles using the various techniques accom-panying each style. Styles ranging from classical to contemporary drama will be studied and performed.
