Meet the Director - Mr. Tyler Merideth

John Overton Chorus Program

Chamber Choir

This is the premiere vocal ensemble at John Overton High School. This auditioned group has enjoyed a rich tradition performing advanced choral literature from the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern time periods in school concerts and out in the community. A member of Chamber Choir is expected to perform with an attitude of excellence at all times whether in rehearsal or performance. Fundraising is required to provide concert attire, transportation, and competition fees. Participation in the Fall, Winter, and Spring concerts is required. This group is open to all upperclassmen.

A Cappella Choir
This is an auditioned ensemble designed for students wanting to pursue intermediate choral singing. Literature performed will include rounds, two and three part songs, and SATB choral music. Participation in the Fall, Winter, and Spring concerts is required. Successful completion of Mixed Chorus or approval from Mr. Merideth is necessary for enrollment in course. Open to all students in grades 10-12.

Mixed Chorus
This is an introductory course exposing students to the wonderful world of choral music through the singing of rounds and two and three part songs. Areas of concentration include basic vocal production, fundamental music theory, sight singing, ear training, and music history. A large portion of the class is based on participation in daily exercises that will strengthen the student's total musicianship. Participation in the Winter and Spring choral concerts is required. Open to students in grades 9-12.

Men's Chorale
Men's Chorale is a beginning level course tailored to help younger singers mature into healthy choristers. Areas of concentration include basic vocal production, fundamental music theory, sight singing and music history. Members of Men's Chorale will enjoy singing rounds and part songs that teach responsibility, teamwork, and working together towards a common goal. Attending the Winter choral concert and participating in the Spring choral concert is mandatory. Open to all Freshman men.

Women's Chorale
Women's Chorale is a beginning level course tailored to help younger singers mature into healthy choristers. Areas of concentration include basic vocal production, fundamental music theory, sight singing and music history. Members of Women's Chorale will enjoy singing rounds and part songs that teach responsibility, teamwork, and working together towards a common goal. Attending the Winter choral concert and participating in the Spring choral concert is mandatory. Open to all Freshman women.
