Dear Parents,
I would like to take this opportunity to update you on the current status of Dress Code and SSA at John Overton High School. Currently, our school is under the same standards for SSA that we had in place last year. This is:
- Pants, shorts, or skirts in navy, black, or khaki. No denim.
- Tops in solid colors of any shade of blue, white, black, red, or any shade of green. Tops must have a collar.
- Shirts must be tucked.
- Pants must be worn at the waist. No sagging.
- If there are belt loops, a belt must be worn.
These are the basics. For a more comprehensive list, refer to the school or district websites at www.mnps.org or www.overtonhs.mnps.org.
In an effort to help students avoid missing instruction for correctable mistakes, we have adjusted the progression of punishment as follows:
|
Level of offense |
Correctable |
Non-Correctable |

First |

It is our hope that every student will choose to comply with the dress code so that he/she can participate in instruction in the classroom.
We will be forming a committee of students, parents, and faculty to make recommendations of adding additional colors and/or school spirit wear this year. We will form this committee immediately after holding Student Council Elections. It is important to me that the leadership of our student body participates in this process. We will continue to keep stakeholders informed as we make progress in this area.
Respectfully,
Dr. Shuler Pelham, Executive Principal
