John Overton High School is located in the southern portion of Davidson County, in Nashville, Tennessee. The school was built in the late 1950's and is in a middle class residential area. It was named for Judge John Overton who lived at nearby Travelers Rest in the 1700's. Overton has a long history of excellence both in academics and extracurricular programs.
Academically, Overton has always been at or near the top of all Metro Nashville Public Schools. A wide variety of AP and Honor classes are offered each year. Students at Overton are competitive and motivated to excel. Their parents are supportive of the school and actively involved in most activities.
Extracurricular activities include almost every sport imaginable as well as a broad music and art program, drama, and forensics. Many clubs are available for our students most of which meet before or after school.
