Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence 1958-2008
John Overton High School is located in the southern portion of Davidson County in Nashville, Tennessee. The school was built in 1958 and is in a middle class residential area. It was named for Judge John Overton who lived at nearby Travellers Rest in the 1700's. The school sits on what was Judge John Overton's peach orchard. Overton has a long history of excellence both in academics and extracurricular programs.

Academically, Overton has always been at or near the top of all Metro Nashville Public Schools. A wide variety of AP and Honors classes are offered each year. Students at Overton are competitive and motivated to excel. Their parents are supportive of the school and are actively involved in activities. Overton is classified as being in GOOD STANDING according to the federal No Child Left Behind Act. Overton is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Extracurricular activities include athletics, music, drama, and forensics. Many clubs are available for our students, most of which meet before or after school. Of Overton's 1650 student enrollment, 150 are international students. One-third of the students are enrolled in the scholars program. Upon graduation, 80% of our students attend college.
